Saturday, January 9, 2010. Okay, I can't seem to stay away from The Blue Whale, downtown L.A.'s new modern jazz location! Jeff DiAngelo on bass, Bob Sheppard on sax, and Matt Gordy on drums played this night to an ever-growing, appreciative audience!

How does one recognize truth in music? There's something so tangible yet intangible... Rhythm, harmony, space, comping, soloing... coming together in such a real way, that it makes all the pain of the "real" world fade away and it's replaced by an opened mind and heart. And "they" say that jazz is dead. Nope. It's actually alive and well.

To be truthful, I'm going through a change in my perspective... I'm getting tired of crappy gigs! Gigs that are in a cold room, with no people listening, a bad piano, and no musical magic. I really want magic more than anything now.
