Follow Your Bliss

This tale is not about my shameful hidden passions. It is instead about an experience I had at the Hollywood Bowl recently. I was fortunate enough to be in attendance in great seats at a sold out show. A sold out show at the Bowl may not be a big deal to some, but a Tuesday night show at the Hollywood Bowl at capacity? 17,000+ Angelenos willing to neglect the Viper Room, the Dodgers and late-night plastic surgeon appointments to support the LA Phil? Inconceivable.

Nature Boy

Well, dear readers, it's been at least three months since my last blog entry, and I am abundantly ashamed. I will spare you my excuses and instead announce that I have accepted the post of news editor for LAjazz.com. Former editor Elizabeth Brion has moved to a new position, and fortunately for me we are now simply friends, instead of friends-slash-editor-slash-wannabe-writer-who-overhyphenates-and-uses-questionable-grammar. I want to thank Elizabeth for her wonderful guidance over the past two years, and I also want to thank my new friend Rosalind Johnson for her kind encouragement to keep on writing. This one's for you, ladies!

I've Grown Accustomed to her Face[book]

As a jazz lover in Los Angeles, it is important to me to be able to be able to find out about good shows quickly and easily. I love LAJazz.com because it's a "one-stop shop" for events (and because it publishes such wonderful, modest blog writers). I also troll local jazz club websites for their calendars, and pick up copies of the local jazz papers and the LA Weekly whenever I can. And now I've found a new source for jazz information: Facebook.

Lithium

"The other day I was talking about ways to stage mini life-makeovers, and it occurred to me that I could widen my musical horizons to make myself more multi-dimensional. Loving jazz as much as I do, however, makes it hard to jump back into my 80's hair metal roots feet-first."

When I [Fell] in Love

As a self-proclaimed jazz ambassador, I am often asked how my love affair with jazz began. I am reminded of how it all started for me every year around Grammy season, so I thought it would be fun to share it in the wake of the Grammy Awards.
